Biography
Who am I? Simple answer, I'm the new Extension Assistant Professor and 4-H Agent for Utah State
University in Washington County, Utah. I work to teach youth life skills
and to make a positive change in the world. So far, so good.
Prior to my new gig with USU, I was the General Manager for Hillsports, a small athletic team sales & marketing company. Before joining the team at Hillsports in 2007, I was an Optician, Marketer, and Salesman at Costco Wholesale for five years, and before that my first job was bagging groceries at Raley's Supermarkets for a little over a year. I've been balancing work and school full-time since I was a teenager, it's all I know.
For some odd reason, I really enjoy school and so I work hard to get excellent grades. As a result, I've had access to a lot of free tuition – so it made sense to pick up some diplomas. After completing my undergraduate degree at Dixie State College of Utah of Utah in Business Administration, I went on and picked up an MBA from Southern Utah University in 2011.
As a leadership critic, I am most interested in the junction of leadership, technology, marketing, managerial accounting, HR practices, and the bottom line in today’s contemporary organizations. I have a strong interest in areas such as: customer service, social media, and performance management, but I also keep a keen eye on the thousands of other areas that impact leaders on a daily basis. My eyes get glossy and roll back when self-proclaimed leaders start drawing conclusions and making assumptions without pulling real data.
I've started Soft Management with the goal of drawing in a community I could learn from. As the mediator, I'll blog about the topics I find most interesting, but feel free to contact me and tell me what ideas you have.
So jump in already!
